Participated in the making of Junya Ishigami’s architectural book and exhibition, Freeing Architecture has been widely recognized as a seminal expression of his theoretical ideas.

The development of each drawing and model was a result of a collaborative effort between the architect’s sketches and the team’s graphic propositions. While participating in the exhibition’s installation, I was thrilled by the experience of witnessing the 1:5 floating model, which captured the essence of the conceptual drawings.

The subsequent pages showcase the drawings and models that I produced as part of my work in Tokyo until the exhibition’s inauguration in Paris. Even the exhibition’s floor plan evokes the essence of Ishigami’s architectural projects.

The above series of drawings delves into the concept of freedom and lightness that underpins the Cloud Arch project. Rising 60 meters tall, this gate is akin to a delicate sketch of a cloud that graces the blue skies of Sydney. Its gentle curves are intricately designed to create an ever-changing appearance depending on the observer’s vantage point.

The exhibition at the Fondation Cartier in Paris was akin to an architectural endeavor, requiring meticulous planning and layout considerations. Upon joining Junya Ishigami’s office in Tokyo, the task of contributing to the exhibition’s creation was assigned to me. Recreating most of the models and drawings from scratch was a formidable undertaking that demanded unwavering dedication and attention to detail. Participating in the exhibition and catalog’s development was a profound and stirring experience.
